WTGS 2007 Fall Symposium

Structure and Stratigraphy of the Permian Basin – Understanding the Fundamentals of Conventional and Unconventional Plays

The Fall Symposium continued it's long-standing tradition of excellence with a strong technical program targeting concepts applied to active exploration and development of plays in the Permian Basin. The two days of technical sessions featured both oral and poster sessions presented by noted authors on the diverse aspects of Permian Basin plays. Friday morning featured a core workshop. Anticipated cores  included in theworkshop were: Wolfcamp, presented by Henry Petroleum; Clear Fork Detrital, presented by Whiting Petroleum; and Suntera Field, presented by Great Western Drilling. The symposium offered an opportunity for geologists, geophysicists, and engineers to meet with the researchers and service providers operating in the Permian Basin and dedicated to continual learning for resource development.

Youth Education and Activities Committee (YEA!)

The West Texas geological community does a lot for young people in our area.

The West Texas Geological Foundation gives three healthy college scholarships to Geology (and/or Engineering) majors each year plus sponsoring Earth Science instruction to teachers on a regular basis. It also encourages teachers who excel in effective science instruction with its annual MOST (Most Outstanding Science Teacher awards given each year to (1) a quality science teacher in Midland, (2) one in Odessa, and (3) one anywhere else in the Permian Basin in public or private schools. You can help with these effective programs by contributing to the West Texas Geological Foundation. The college scholarships are recommended by the WTGS Scholarship Committee chaired by Sue Reid.
