Friday, September 28 – Sunday, September 30, 2018 leaving Thursday after the Symposium
Field trip participants will visit key outcrops in the Guadalupe Mountains and westernmost Delaware Basin. Composite-scale sequence stratigraphy and associated lithofacies will be studied and correlated across the Guadalupe Mountains into the Delaware Basin. These outcrops have relevance to both conventional and unconventional plays. Outcrops to be visited include Middle Permian exposures in the Guadalupe Mountains of: 1) Lower San Andres and Upper San Andres; 2) Grayburg; 3) Queen; 4) Seven Rivers; 5) Yates; and 6) Tansill formations. Time equivalent strata will be visited in the Delaware Basin that consist of: 1) Cutoff; 2) Brushy Canyon; 3) Cherry Canyon; and 4) Bell Canyon formations. Field trip participants will have the opportunity to identify, correlate, and connect similar composite-scale lithofacies and color them onto a blank cross section that connects Guadalupe Mountains and Delaware Basin strata. Color pencils, etc. will be supplied.
This trip is limited to 25 participants
